Bedside Tables
European Oak & American Walnut · Pair

The Design
Checkerboard Tops
The tops are the showpiece. Long-grain blocks of oak and walnut arranged in a two-tone checkerboard pattern. Each block is cut, squared, and glued up in an offsetting jig to orient them in the desired position.
The sled-base frame in pale oak lifts the darker walnut carcass, creating a visual float. The open lower shelf keeps the form light.
Designed as a pair, mirror images of each other, made to sit either side of a bed.
The Craft
Two Woods, One Piece
The walnut drawer front is cut from a single board, grain-matched across both tables. A push-to-open mechanism keeps the face clean, no handles to interrupt. Drawers planed to fit and slide smoothly with minimal effort.
The oak frame utilises half-blind dovetails on the top and bottom of all the verticals. The sled base provides stability without bulk.
Finished with Danish oil and local beeswax. The contrast between the two woods will mellow over time as the oak darkens with light exposure.
