End-Grain Chopping Board

European walnut brings its rich, chocolate-brown tones while European beech offers warmth in golden amber. Together they create a striking checkered pattern that transforms a kitchen tool into a statement piece.

The beech carries darker areas of false heartwood, caused by oxidised wood or severe frosts during the tree's lifetime. These natural variations add depth and character to the lighter squares.

Two woods, one purpose.

Each block is cut to identical dimensions, squared true, and arranged to create the alternating pattern. The checkered design runs through the entire thickness of the board, visible on all sides.

Finger grips are routed into the short ends for easy lifting. A juice groove runs the perimeter, catching liquids before they reach the counter.

Finished with food-safe mineral oil. The pattern becomes more pronounced as the wood ages.
